Why are software estimates expensive?

When it comes to software development projects, requesting a “free” estimate may seem like a cost-effective choice. But, in fact, it frequently leads to a whole host of hidden expenses.

First, it takes time and resources for an expert to properly evaluate, define, and price your project.

If you’re seeking out a free quote, you aren’t properly valuing the expertise of a reputable Software Engineer to consult and provide a clear-sighted fixed price for your project’s implementation.

Second, free estimates often don’t factor in the cost of revisions, project scope changes, and unforeseen setbacks that often arise in software development.

The end result? Greater confusion and unexpected costs that could have been avoided had a proper, fee-based analysis been conducted in the first place. So, while the lure of “free” might be tempting, it’s wise to look beyond the surface and consider the long-term costs.

If you can’t describe what you are doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing.
